Here’s some of the random sprites I’ve made over the last few months. After my big Space Invaders piece, I took a little bit of a break. I’m about to wrap up the Super Mario Maker project, and am considering moving into Final Fantasy 2 for my next big project.
I’ll be pinning the Super Mario Maker sprites to the wall soon, and will post update pics. =)
I finally got around to taking pictures, editing, tagging, and posting my completed Final Fantasy project, and here are the results. =)
Represented are every monster, boss, and hero from Final Fantasy 1 ascending the stairs to my bedroom (185 pieces in total). I estimate it took about 200 hours of work from start to finish over a 16 month period. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started, but I stuck with it and finished it new years eve 2014.
I have two new big projects for 2015, including a WrestleMania set and 22k bead bucket mural, so I’m not done with this blog by a long shot. Stay tuned.
I had a goal to finish it before the end of the year, and have accomplished that goal. Tomorrow I will start photographing it and getting the pictures posted online. I don’t even know how many hours I’ve put into it, but it’s been over a year in the making.
Keep an eye out on the blog for updates, photos, and video!
I’ve finally done it! I’ve finally made the last of the monsters in the Final Fantasy Perler series. I’ve made 112 monsters, 11 bosses, and all of the warriors of light in 6 poses each; 195 pieces in total. *phew*
I’m also nearly complete with affixing them to the wall up my stairway, and I’m on track to complete it before the end of the year. I have plans to add more pieces to it (buildings, NPCs, and swords/spell effects) over the years, but I am pleased to have achieved 1.0 on this project.
This is at the bottom of the stairs in my home as I near completion of my Final Fantasy Monsters and Warriors project. in total, there are over 200 individual pieces of art from the game, and likely when I complete that, I will be adding NPC and other in game art like castles, and locations. Expect to see the whole wall (it goes all the way up the stairs) in the coming few weeks.
I have another batch of 6 done, and am down to about 30 more to do (mostly smaller ones) and then I will be done with the monsters, bosses, and warriors. I’ve tried a few things to keep them on the wall other than thumbtacks without putting holes in walls, but I’ve found that’s the only way to keep them there. I tried glue dots, poster tack, double sided foam tape, and even masking tape, but they fall off eventually.
I have settled on Sequin pins since they are small, cheap, and a little longer than thumbtacks. They are a total pain in the behind to push into the wall (I use a pair of pliers), but once they are in, you can hide the head of the pin in the hole of a bead, and you can put them where they need to be to hold the perler creation flat against the wall, where a pushpin would look out of place in the middle of it.
I plan to have this complete by mid October, and I might even make a big piece based on the bridge crossing scene to add to it. I love it when a plan comes together.
Here are four more monsters from Final Fantasy 1. I’m getting super close to finishing up all the monsters for the final project of all monsters, bosses, and heroes. Once I am done, it will be over 200 individual pieces I am creating for a mural, and it’s shaping up to be pretty kick ass.
I had been itching to make something a little bit bigger than I have made so far. Last posts Bald Bull was one of the bigger ones, and I figured the time had come to make the final boss from Final Fantasy as my biggest Perler creation yet.
I had originally planned to make him last out of all the Final Fantasy Perlers set that I am working on, but I just recently purchased a ton of bags of beads and wanted to do something that posed a challenge, and Chaos was definitely up to the task. I will create another post about this with some of the progress pictures of the steps I had to take to get him completed.
Posed with Chaos is, of course, Garland who I am now realizing hasn’t been posted on this page yet, but was featured on my “indefinitely on hold web comic”, FightMagicDrinkItemRun.com . Also posed are the defeated Warriors of Light, who went to visit Chaos before they were prepared. =)
The sign of a busy Perler artist, is a messy kitchen table. I was making some Battletoads, and was taping the surprised toad beadsprite in a hurry and totally ripped his arms and legs off. I have since rebuilt him, but the pic just looks funny like he is in pain and shock. =)
Note the completely full 22k container of black beads. That is the 3rd time I have had to fill it since I started last July. I just got an $80 in to help finish the Final Fantasy stuff. The shark there is the Grey Shark from FF1.
